Steel rolling equipment and technology have developed rapidly in recent years. The equipment and technology of China's steel rolling industry have been continuously improved and innovated on the basis of introduction and existing, and achieved good results. The development of steel rolling production is not only determined by the increase in the speed of the main rolling equipment (rolling mill) and the shortening of the rolling cycle, but also largely determined by the continuous improvement and improvement of the rolling auxiliary equipment, the degree of mechanization and automation of the rolling auxiliary equipment, and the level of production capacity, the design of the rolling pass, which directly affects the modernization of steel rolling production and the improvement of productivity, therefore, steel rolling auxiliary equipment plays a very important role in steel rolling production.

In the steel rolling workshop, the weight of the steel rolling auxiliary equipment is generally more than 3 to 4 times the weight of the main equipment. Taking the 1000 preliminary rolling workshop as an example, the total weight of the equipment is 4400t, of which the weight of the main steel rolling equipment is only 1000t. In some workshops, roller tables and cooling beds alone account for more than half of the total weight of the entire workshop equipment.

One of the characteristics of steel rolling auxiliary equipment is that there are many kinds of auxiliary equipment. They are responsible for completing various different processes. Some auxiliary equipment also has very bad working conditions. They often work in high temperature, water, iron scales, humid and dusty environments. Some equipment has a large working load, some have to bear impact and vibration, and many auxiliary equipment are frequently started (some have to reach 1500 times/small, more than once). In addition, the structure, movement and working system of auxiliary equipment are often more complex than rolling mills.
